Growth of Cd<sub>0.9</sub>Zn<sub>0.1</sub>Te<sub>1–<i>y</i> </sub>Se<sub> <i>y</i> </sub> Single Crystals for Room-Temperature Gamma Ray Detection

Quaternary Cd 0.9 Zn xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0.1 Te xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1-y Se xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">y (CZTS) single crystals, a novel room-temperature nuclear radiation detector semiconductor material, have been grown using modified vertical Bridgman method (VBM) and traveling heater (THM). The percentage concentration of selenium in the VBM-grown crystal was 3% that THM-grown 2%. While THM Frisch collar ( 4.4×4.4×10.7 mm $^{3}$ ) produced highly resolved pulse height spectra (PHS) with resolution ~1.06% for 662-keV gamma rays without any correction, 10×10×2 offered high-energy ~2% after application digital bi-parametric correction. high-resolution performance these detectors has attributed to addition (CZT) matrix. Ab-initio calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) also confirmed CZT matrix helps reduce formation xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Cd xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Zn antisites. crystals were characterized powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). XRD results revealed sharp peaks confirming crystalline nature crystal, EDS targeted stoichiometry elemental composition. bulk resistivity calculated be ~ 3×10 10 Ω-cm from current-voltage characteristics recorded at room temperature planar configuration, ensuring CZTS low dark current as required detector-grade crystals.
